A huge gain for the Linux community! While these things can be seen as something minor or unimportant for most people and use cases, these sorts of advances also help propel Linux-usage on other fronts further as interest increases and as Microsoft’s monopoly on workstations and laptops diminishes further. Gaming is notoriously one of the last major places Microsoft controls the market, and Steam has for a long time tracked the market share of the OSes using its software. As technologies like Vulkan gain steam,[1] the future of Linux on desktop bodes increasingly well.
