Homebrew Reasoning. This new Hobgoblin borrows heavily from Volo’s Guide to Monsters, but additionally grants Shield Proficiency to the Hobgoblin, representing the hobgoblin’s training within his unit. Additionally, it grants the Hobgoblin Disciplined to further represent its expertise in combat and the high level of training hobgoblin culture puts its members through. These changes were made because the Hobgoblin otherwise was armor and weapon proficiency and a short rest use ability. While far from being comparable to a dwarf, this should fill the Hobgoblin’s bonuses out.
