Homebrew Reasoning.

The Lizardfolk presented in Volo’s Guide to Monsters was pretty great, but I felt its Natural Armor ability could have simply been written as the Warforged (+1 to Armor Class). Cunning Artisan was great, but that simply could be a downtime activity regardless of race.

This Lizardfolk is presented with a flat change to the Natural Armor benefit and with Subraces. Volo’s Guide to Monsters’s Lizardfolk is presented as the Swamptail, and a favorite from 3rd Edition, the Posiondusk Lizardfolk, is presented as a small sized subrace which does not gain the Bite attack of the Swamptail, instead gaining the various resistances originally present and some skill with poison use. For that reason, size was moved to the Subraces rather than as a base race. Hunter’s Lore was added over the original Homebrew benefits of Tail and Scaly Worship.
