Homebrew Reasoning. This homebrew replaces what is presented in Volo’s Guide to Monsters, which is relatively flat. The Intelligence score penalty as well is not very satisfying.

This homebrew presents a base Orc with various subraces to try and represent various orcs, from the traditional Black Orc, to a quick and enduring Gray Orc, to a head nod to the Warcraft Orcs presented as the Green Orc. This homebrew removes the Intelligence penalty and the Aggressive ability, which feels more like a class ability than a racial quality.

Here, the Black Orc would be the general parent race for the Half Orc but with numerous other benefits. Half-Orcs get Relentless Endurance (from the Player’s Handbook) and Big and Orcy (from homebrew). The Black Orc gains Tireless, Orc Weapon Training, its Powerful Build reduces the penalties of carrying heavy loads, and they gain Soot from the Furnace.
