Variant Rule: New Damage Types

Most Fantasy Games include damage types like the following:
Earth
Wind
Nature

Thoughts of adding these in? These are normally represented by poison, acid, bludgeoning, and piercing.

A case for wind and earth would be that the types are doing more than just bludgeoning–wind carries pieces of dirt, grit, plants, etc.

Are these things really so far beyond Fantasy elements that they couldn’t be “hard elementalized” within the game world? For that matter, what about a Water damage type to differentiate it from Cold?

I would hate to see dozens of new damage types introduced for the sake of granularity, but I think we could benefit from additional ones. Such a change might ask that Elementals receive new stats or changes in stats to fit these modifications; spells have their damage types changed, etc.
